Even in the most urban of spaces we have a wealth of plants around us. Look up to some forgotten gutter and you will often see a plant thriving in the most precarious fashion! Cast your eyes around, you will find herbs that will heal you, soothe you, and even stop bleeding.
Cosmetics, shampoos, soaps, salves, tinctures and furniture polish can all be made at home with natural ingredients.
Join me on a journey of discovery. Take a gentle ramble and meet the plants that you can use safely and those which should be avoided. It was on a foray into the hedgerows for ingredients for a country wine that I found one of my terriers picking and eating blackberries with great dexterity! Even Daisy, my terrier, knew that they were good for her! Discover the hidden benefits of the humble nettle. Learn how to make salves and tinctures. Many of you will never again despair over your ‘weedy lawn’ or see it as just grass!
The workshops and retreats both here and in SW France are informal and informative and I am told, very enjoyable.
“Anona’s knowledge of nature’s plants and their healing properties is astonishing. I learned so much. I hope to repeat her wonderful workshop soon.”

About our Herbal Retreats
On arrival at your home for the next few days you can relax and wind down after your journey with light refreshments.
You will be staying in a tastefully recently converted barn in the Dordogne with an outdoor swimming pool. (The pool may be closed from the end of September).
On our herbal day we begin with a walk through the fields learning to identify those herbs which can benefit and those best to avoid. (Especially the spotty ones)!
After discovering a little about the benefits of herbs and of their possible applications in our modern world, we will break for lunch.
In the afternoon we will make a salve or two! Maybe investigate the lore of the folk in days gone by and how we owe it to them not to lose the Art completely.
Price of retreat includes:
- Welcome refreshments.
- All linen and towels
- Refreshments and light lunch on course days.
- Herbal booklet and art materials.
Please advise of any special dietary requirements.
Reflexology and Indian Head Massage treatments are available on request.
